Our Advent and Christmas journeys this year begin and end with ancient scriptures crying out – both in despair and in hope. We join them in prayer.
The Psalmist writes (89:1-2):
I will sing of your steadfast love, O LORD, forever;
with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
I declare that your steadfast love is established forever;
your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
And we too will sing God – though we be alone in our homes, isolated in hospital, working a double shift, trying to teach our children online, bankrupted by closures, we will try and sing.
Your love does remain when we leave all our pain at your feet.
Your love does remain when we leave all our media off for a day.
Your love does remain when we worship online or in person.
Send reminders of this steadfast love Holy God. Do not let us forget you!
And then we will sing as Mary did:
My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.
