“P” for patience as we age (written for the amazing folks at Leduc's Extendicare)

Patience seems to be life’s final exam.  When we receive this gift of the Spirit from God, we are called to nurture and protect it throughout our lives so that we have it in abundance for when we are aging.

While there was a time our bodies could run for the bus when we were late, there comes a time when we cannot and we must just wait for the next one.

While there was a time when our loud voice could cut through a meeting going on to long, there comes a time when our voice croaks and doesn’t draw any attention.

While there was a time when we could make a quick snack if we were hungry, as we age we find ourselves needing to wait on others to tell us it is snack time… or wait until our next meal is served.

While there was a time when we were the ones teaching, nursing, leading and singing – now we wait for those folks to find us and give us news, care and play the piano for us.

How much faith we must exercise to be patient.  We must try in God's Spirit and allow people to find their way, allow others to learn at their own pace and listen when our voice are used to singing.

The final years of our lives, we must have faith that in all our waiting – we never wait for God – for God is sitting and waiting with us. Thanks be to God.
